Volley Pass – Video book

The spiral

The spiral is a progression where the order of importance is: hips rotation, feet rotation and hands reaching. The coach addresses his attention to these issues in that order. When one aspect is poor he will go back to explore the previous step.

Two hands support

From sitting to standing using the spiral with 2 hands support.

One hand support

From sitting to standing using the spiral with 1 hand support.

Watching the free hand

From sitting to standing using the spiral with 1 hand support and looking at the hand reaching high.

Changing feet

From sitting to standing using the spiral on both sides, changing the feet.

Using the ball

With the ball in both hands and looking at the ball.

Setting while turning

Setting while turning is based on the same principle but taking it to a higher level in space.

Turning and throwing

Throwing the ball to the side, turning and setting over the net.

Turning and playing

Throwing the ball to the side, turning and setting over the net.

Hand pronation

Pronation of the hands starts in the forearm and elbow. This fact allows to use the hands (fingers) to obtain precision on the pass.

Laying down

All fours

Pushing

Hand pronation 4

You can see the tendency of the kids to place very early the palms of the hands facing the ball. This brings a high tonus in the hands and the fingers become rigid.

Catching the falling ball

The falling ball is caught with the hands turning very late. First with catching then with volley pass.

Playing the falling ball

The hands turn very late while volley passing.

Fingers

The goal is to differentiate one finger from the other.

Fingers

We ask the kids to play piano on the ball. The bouncing ball can also be touched with 10, 8, 6, 4 and even 2 fingers.

Open exercises

With volley pass

The open exercises (see chapter Throwing and catching) are executed with volley pass (with or without catching of the ball).
