Starting point
We use the three possible ways a ball can act.
- Rolling on the floor.
- Bouncing under the net.
- Flying over the net.
Over and under (organization)
This is a basic exercise used on each level (from throwing/catching up to volleyball techniques).
Throwing & catching
The kids throw and catch the ball without further instruction of the trainer. The organization (ball over the net, player under the net) is the same as shown in rolling and catching.
In the exercise above we can already see the characteristics of volleyball:
- Chain of actions.
- Moving forward, backward, sideways and diagonal.
- To manage time and space using the trajectory of the ball.
- Transitioning from one phase of the game to the next without stopping.
- Tactical thinking precedes technical execution.
What is the trainer watching?
- The hips are on high or medium level in space (knees slightly bent).
- When does the player start to run to the other side? Just after the throw or when the ball is already gone?
- Is there a preference in:
- the placement of the feet
- which direction to turn
Remarks:
These aspects (patterns) have to be treated in the warm up.
